Question: Summarize the dietary recommendations and offer lifestyle interventions for heart health.

Answer: Heart health is the most important health. You’d heart is the main organ for the body as it provides every single part of your body with much needed oxygen as well as nutrients.

The American Heart Association and World Health Organization all agree that the average person needs to focus on 3 lifestyle factors to prevent heart disease and cardiovascular disease, and promote heart health.

1. Diet
Diet is considered the most important factor because of course the foods you eat can greatly influence the strength of your heart and blood vessels. Eating a higher fiber diet with lots of vegetables and fruits, and limited meats, has tremendous benefits. It had already been proven by thousands of studies that eating a high vegetable diet is the best diet to prevent heart disease and things in that category. Water intake is very important, and generally drinking 8 large cups of water a day is highly recommended to support kidney function.

2. Exercise
Exercise is also important in conjunction with diet as it makes no sense to eat a healthy vegetable diet, but never exercise, and similarity, it makes no sense to exercise and eat a processed food diet.
Now the recommendations for exercise are somewhat different depending on the source, but generally it is advised to get anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes of moderate activity exercise. Meaning each day you should get 45 to 60 minutes of exercise through jogging, swimming, playing basketball, playing football, cycling, etc. If you cannot do moderate or vigorous activity and must walk, walk for at least 1 hour a day.
Exercises important because it strengthens the heart and allows for blood to flow to different parts of the body more efficiently

3. Sleep
Sleep is one of the factors that many people don’t acknowledge because our society is based around working at maximum capacity, so many people don’t get the necessary 8 to 10 hours of sleep a day. Of course the amount sleep you need depends on your age, but over the age of 13, you should get at least 8 hours of sleep with 7 hours being considered acceptable. Sleep is very important for the heart because sleep is the phase where muscle repair occurs. The body grows during this time, the brain is relaxed and short term memories become long term memories in the heart, digestive organs prepare to clean up the trash left over from digestion, and the heart gets a much needed break by having to pump less harder.

Overall there are 3 factors that are important for proper heart and overall cardiovascular health. Diet, Exercise, and Sleep. You must have a good vegetable focused diet with fish being excellent as a main course, and plenty of water drinking throughout the day. Exercise is also important with 45-60 minutes of moderate activity being suggested. Walking is also great, but 1 hour of walking is necessary, with a good strong pace. Sleep is very important too as repair occurs, so sleeping 8 hours a day is essential to body repair to make sure that you wake up with a perfect body. If you lack in any one of these categories, you are not only jeopardizing your heart health, but your entire body’s health.
