Multiply equation i by 8

Multiply equation ii by 2

16h + 8s = 208 ........ equation iv

Subtract equation iv from iii

48s = 480

s = 480/48

s = 10

One shrub cost $10

Put the value of one shrub into equation ii

8h + 4s = 104

8h + 4(10) = 104

8h + 40 = 104

8h = 104 - 40

8h = 64

h = 64/8

h = $8
