When worldwide exploration became more popular, Christians started ending out missionaries to convert and educate people about Christianity. This 'new' religion came to China and Japan and within a few years it became widespread. When new rulers came to power they wanted to ban this religion, any missionaries, and all Europeans, they believed this religion would threaten their national unity.
