A group of students conducted an experiment to find out what happens to the force of magnetism between two magnets as the distance between them increases. They used the equipment you see in the illustration. They
placed spacers between the magnet in the cup and the magnet on the post to increase the distance between them. They used washers as units to measure how much force it took to pull the two magnets apart.
