To solve this equation we can easily apply cross multiplication acknowledging that y is different from 0 and -3 to ensure that the denominator is not Zero
This gives :
8 × 3y = 4 × ( y + 3)
24y = 4y + 12
24y - 4y = 12
20y = 12
y = 12/20
Then y = 3/5 or in decimal form y = 0.6
