Who fired the shot that began the American Revolution?

The answer is unknown, know one knows who but my history book tells me that the Americans heard a shot fire and thought the British officers did it, but the officers said they didn't cause they saw the militia jump over the hedge wall and they saw smoke and shots come from there, certainly one or more Americans did indeed fire shots from the Meeting House, as they did from the back of Buckman Tavern
