The author describes the Cyclops as fearless and scary. The boys are definitely scared of the Cyclops. The Cyclops eating the kids are described with imagination and unnerving features due to the "crunching".
He is most likely a merciless creature who has no guilt or shame in eating thinking creatures. The cyclops is most likely very powerful and perhaps very big as well to be able to easily kill and eat many men, since he was able to fit two men in a single hand. He is gigantic and powerful, but also beastly. The way he is depicted in this excerpt almost makes you see him as an wild animal that is "just doing what he does".
