The pairing of purine to pyrimidine is responsible for
the ____ of a DNA double helix.
length
diameter
twist

Respuesta :

I’m pretty sure the answer to your question is diameter.

The pairing of purine to pyrimidine is responsible for the diameter of a DNA double helix.

• A molecule of DNA is formed of two strands, which are twisted around each other to produce a right-handed helix. Base pairing occurs between a pyrimidine and purine on contrasting strands. The pairing of guanine takes place with cytosine, and the pairing of adenine takes place with thymine.

• The distance between each base pair is 0.34 nm, and 10 base pairs are present in each turn of the helix.

• In a DNA double helix, the diameter is 2nm, and it is the same throughout. The antiparallel orientation of the two DNA strands and the pairing between a purine and pyrimidine are responsible for the uniform diameter of the DNA helix.

Thus, the pairing of purine to pyrimidine is responsible for the diameter of a DNA double helix.
