Photosynthesis is the light dependant one. Without light, it can't occur. The Calvin cycle on the other hand is the light-independent reactions in photosynthesis. While it is not directly dependant on the light it is still independently dependant on it because the necessary energy carriers are products of other light-dependent reactions.
