In the mid-1500s some Catholic priests criticized the Spanish government's treatment of Native Americans. That context might have influenced Sarmiento's account in that he tried to change the version of the Catholic priest. What he did was to interview the nobles of that time and to write a document that stated that the Incas were not good rulers. In Sarmiento´s version, the Spanish were the ones who had been good rulers.
although this clearly was not true, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa was the Spaniard who wrote: "The History of the Incas" in 1572. He interviewed many noble families of the time in Cusco. The order to write this version was commanded by the Viceroy of Perú.
