Demeter is known as the Greek goddess of fertility who was also responsible for agriculture, fertility and grain. She was also in charge of life and death and the food yield which people of a town could get each harvest season.
She was the daughter of Cronus and Rhea and was one of the concubines of Zeus. Her daughter Persephone was married to Hades who lives in the Underworld and because of her sadness where persephone lives one-third of the year with him. This is attributed to why there is winter season.
