He believed in the Stoic notion of fate in which everything is as it was meant to be in an eternally changing Universe. The Stoics believed that the Universe was an “eternal fire” of an ever changing determinate universal flux. Stoicism is inherently pessimistic. Hence, one should resign one’s self to their fate and just accept it since the only thing you have control of is your thoughts and wishes. Your inner world belongs to your soul and is untouchable by fate. You are free to think what you want and thus you are free to mentally endure your suffering if necessary.
