A market economy is a system where the production of goods and services is usually set by the desires. needs and abilities of the market players and the system of supply and demand. The basic market players are:

Consumers: they express their preferences and demand certain goods and services they are willing to obtain with their money;

Businesses: they represent the engine of the system since they provide jobs and the goods and services people can buy. In a market ecconomy, almost everything is owned by individuals and private businesses, and not by the government;

Government: as individuals and companies play a central role in a market economy, the government's scope of action is defined according to the extent of the government's intervention. This intervention is made thought the implementation of policies that may be aimed at increasing efficiency, providing infraestructure, promoting equity or fostering stability and growth.
