First I wanna tell u , DE means a straight line between the two points of D and E ;

Thus we want to find the distance between D & E .

We have following equation to find :

[tex]DE = \sqrt{ ({y(D) - y(E)})^{2} + ({x(D) - x(E)})^{2} } \\ [/tex]

Now just need to put the coordinates in the above equation.

Let's do it....

[tex]DE = \sqrt{ ({4 - ( - 6)})^{2} + ({ - 3 - ( - 7)})^{2} } \\ [/tex]

[tex]DE = \sqrt{ ({4 + 6})^{2} + ({ - 3 + 7})^{2} } \\ [/tex]

[tex]DE = \sqrt{ {10}^{2} + {4}^{2} } \\ [/tex]

[tex]DE = \sqrt{100 + 16} [/tex]

[tex]DE = \sqrt{116} [/tex]

[tex]DE = 10.77[/tex]

[tex]DE = 10.8[/tex]

Done...
