Chocolate has an unhappy, frustrating, and unexpected history. When getting a taste of a Cadbury bar, or a cake, the chocolate being used was most likely an outcome of child labour. Child labor in the chocolate/cocoa enterprise is something that has operated on for quite some time. Only recently was it produced to the notice of the society about West African cocoa cultivation and the trafficking that went on there.
Children overpowered to harvest cocoa in the West African province have been opened to many things. From using swords and blades to "hauling 100-pound sacks of beans", situations are not accessible for these kids. They work in intense heat with no rest most days and are punished if they do otherwise. These kids work for little or no payment on top of it all. Some were traded into labor from their families while others do it for the little payment or by force.
Awareness and development have evolved from the amount of coverage and knowledge to the public about this problem and have developed conditions in many places. Although many are still being victimized by child labor.
