What steps will you follow to add lighting to a photograph?

(create highlights on the new layer using the dodge or paintbrush tools, delete the untouched areas of the new layer using the eraser tool, repeat this technique to add more highlights adding a new layer each time, make a copy of he original file as a new layer and work on this copy, blend the two layers by changing the opacity of the upper layer, visualize the lighting you require and how it will interact with the different surfaces in the photograph.)
