Explanation: On September 2nd, the Empire of Japan formally surrendered to the Allies on board the U.S.S Missouri in Tokyo Bay bringing an official end to the now 6 year conflict which was started on September 1st with the German invasion of Poland. Germany surrendered on the 8th of May, 1945, signifying VE or Victory in Europe Day. Whilst Japan surrendered on August the 15th, 1945, signifying VJ day or Victory over Japan Day. However the official peace treaty was not signed until the 2nd of September, signifying the end of the war. It is estimated that around 56 million people died in the war.
