In their still room in the museum, we can see how
beautifully they are carved. The jowls of the horse,
its muzzle, the backs of the other gods - all things
that could not have been seen when they were on
their high perch - are cut with as much care as
though they had been made for the floor of the
great temple. By making their work so perfect, the
sculptors expressed their devotion to the goddess
