They give people different jobs like different things that they might think is only for the mans while women do others things that the mans thinks are only for them like cleaning.
People communicate (nonverbal) their gender within their culture even with the clothes they wear. (Although those stereotypes are slowly disappearing). It also goes the other way, culture highly affects gender, such as tv shows you watched growing up, magazines, advertisements, and family influence. These are all ways you get the idea of gender in the first place.
