Feudal, superstitious, "dark"-- The Medieval Era or Middle Ages was the time before the Renaissance.
The political and economic system was a feudal system with a hierarchy of land owners at the top and peasants at the bottom. The people were superstitious believing good and bad happened at the hands of God giving the Catholic Church a ton of power. It is also referred to as the "dark" ages due to the lack of innovation, art, or advances in intellect. The period is marked by illiteracy with very few people being able to read or write.
