Herbert Hoover took office in 1929, the year the U.S. plummeted into the Great Depression. His predecors policies undoubtedly contributed to the crisis, but Hoover was blamed for it. However, the Depression lasted ten years and Hoover failed to recognize the severity of the situation and wasn't able to rectify it during his time in office.
