The statement that stimulants raise your bodies' blood pressure, increase your breathing rate, increase your heart rate and raise your body temperature is true. This type of drugs stimulates the body’s central nervous system and results in these health effects. Because of this they are also known as "uppers". Examples include: caffeine, medications such as methylphenidate and abused drugs, such as methamphetamine and cocaine. However, stimulants have negative and dangerous long-term effects: repeated high doses of some stimulants over a short period can lead to feelings of hostility or paranoia, dangerously high body temperatures and an irregular heartbeat.
