Camels were used as domestic animals because Camels have long been domesticated and, as livestock, they provide food (milk and meat) and textiles (fiber and felt from hair).
They are also used for transportation in desert areas that are not able to be traveled by normal means of transportation. They are very reliable and are able to travel long distances without hydration making them very well suited in situations where water and food may be scarce for longer periods.
