a blue scarf is 1.7 yards long. A green scarf is 1 whole ad 4/5 yards long. Which scarf is longer ? How much longer ?

4/5 as a decimal is 0.8
so 1.7 would be 1.70 and the green one would be 
1.08 so obviously the blue scarf is longer
