. Why is it so important that people know their rights? In this scenario, what is the
relationship between being told and understanding one's rights, and actually being
protected by them?

Answer:

If you go to court or a cop pulls you over for no reason.

Explanation:

If you have to go to court and you are not granted the opportunity to get an appointed lawyer is fine because that's the law and I don't recommend that you should represent yourself because lawyers are generally the ones that understand the situation more if you talk to them about it, they study and make the defense, but that's not the point. If a court doesn't allow you to bring witnesses, that goes against your rights because you were not granted a witness when it states in the sixth amendment to the U.S that people shall be granted a witness or shall be confronted by one. You need to know your rights because if you are accused of something you didn't do, then you can be falsely punished or jailed for that mistake. But remember anything you say can be used against you, so be careful. Not saying this will happen to you I'm just saying in case you need to know.
