Children generally show interest in washing themselves around age 2, are able to wash themselves with supervision by age 4, and bathe independently by age 8. List potential challenge areas with establishing independence in bathing:
The age at which a child would be ready or willing to bathe independently would vary from person to person. Perhaps the child is not yet adequately aware of how to clean himself/herself or may hurt themselves by slipping on the wet floor. Another challenge could be difficulty in using shampoo without adult supervision as it can come into contact with the eyes which can be very painful for the child.
