Roots of plants take up water and minerals from the roots via the medium of passive transport and diffusion. The facilitated diffusion of mineral ions into the root cells requires specific channel proteins in the membranes. The uptake of mineral ions in the plant cells is influenced by electrical gradient, concentration gradients, ionic balance and pumping of hydrogen ion.
