A convex spherical mirror with a radius of 50 cm has a 4.0 cm tall object placed 100 cm in front of it. What is the position of the image relative to the mirror?

Respuesta :

The position of the image relative to the mirror is 33.33 cm to the left.

What is reflection?

When a light strikes on a shiny surface, it reflects back the light ray in the same medium. The phenomenon is called reflection and the ray is called the reflected ray.

From the Len's maker formula, we have

1/f = 1/u + 1/v

where f = radius of curvature /2

          f = 50 cm/2

          f =25 cm

u = object distance = 100cm

Convex mirror has negative focal length and the object distance measured to the left is taken negative and vice versa.

Substituting the values into the formula ,we get

1/(-25) = 1/(-100) +1/v

1/v = 1/100 -1/25

v = -33.33 cm

Thus,  the position of the image relative to the mirror is 33.33 cm to the left.
