Clause 39 of the Carta Magna which guarantees the right of a freeman to a trial by his peers before he could be lawfully imprisoned is one of the most famous clauses in Magna Carta, as well as the right to habeas corpus (that the accused must be presented to the court in person for charges to be read and the trial to begin).
