In Chapter 4, Nick begins to learn more about Gatsby. Gatsby becomes more of a mysterious character to him, as the tales of his past he shares with Nick sound incredulous. Nick doesn't believe him until he's forced to when Gatsby pulls out his medal from the war and a picture of him in his Oxford class. From this moment on, Nick becomes more and more fascinated with this seemingly ridiculous man, leading to their close relationship later in the book.
