What are your thoughts as to why the fire service has chosen to be involved in so many life safety and rescue arenas? Why don't Ambulance companies, Police departments, or private entities like the red cross get involved like the fire service does?

The fire services get involved to ensure that when there are emergencies in rescues that there are no hazards, furthermore, the fire services actually has the proper equipment for rescues that are usually set aside for fires.
