The cell spends the most time in interphase preparing to divide. It is during interphase that it increases the number of organelles and size so that when it splits, both daughter cells have enough organelles to function

The cell splits and grows by cell division and cell cycle. The nuclear and the cytoplasmic material of the cells split to form two alike daughter cells.
The cell cycle consists of the M phase and the interphase. The interphase of the cycle comprises G1, S and G2 phases.
The intermediate phase is the most elongated in the cell cycle because the cell to be divided expends a lot of preparatory periods in this phase.
During the interphase, the cell organelles increase in size and number so that when divides it equally gets allocated in both the daughter cells.
Therefore, the interphase is the longest phase in cell division.
