HURRY!!!
Home
by Tina Tocco
The house was as still
as a cemetery

with gray shutters
and shingles
and stairs.

The windows' mouths
were painted shut,
so breath could neither enter
nor linger
nor leave.

The bedrooms were locked,
the cupboards were bare,
the carpet was gone. . .

And I shuddered like a child
in the dark,
asking once,
then again
and again

Why had I left?
Stayed away so long?
What had happened
in one short year?

Why does the author say "I shuddered like a child in the dark"?
A.
to show that the house had never been wired for electricity

Respuesta :

Answer:

C

Explanation:

Shuddering is compared to being scared

To convey that the speaker is terrified and scared by what she has seen, the author uses the phrase "I shuddered like a child in the dark." The right answer is given in option (C).

Why was Tina scared by exploring the home?

Tina Tocco is the author of this poem named "home." Tina has authored both children's and adult-oriented tales. She was put forward for a fiction writing honor.

The house's dark roof, shutters, and staircases were as motionless as a cemetery. The mouths of the windows were painted shut, preventing both entry and retention of breath.

In the poem, Tina describes a house with grey shutters and staircases; when she was a tiny child and was exploring the house, she was terrified or scared.

So, option (C): ''to show that the speaker is scared by what she has seen" is the best choice.
