The three criteria for reporting child abuse are Child, Caretaker, Category.
Child abuse can be described as any form of maltreatment given to a child that is 18 years old or younger than 18. This abuse comes from a parent of the child or a caregiver.
Child abuse can be in different forms:
- neglect
- sexual abuse
- emotional abuse
- physical abuse
The agency that is responsible for carrying out investigations on child abuse is the Department of Human Services. Investigations are carried out when the person is a child. If the person responsible for the child as a caretaker fails to take care of the child. The DHS also gets involved if the category of abuse falls under the categories of child abuse as stated in the Iowa code.
