Verbal irony is sarcasm. Situational irony is when the opposite of what's expected occurs and dramatic irony(like in a play) is when the audience is revealed information that the characters don't know

Verbal irony is defined as a rhetorical figure of literature by which a person says or write one thing to mean exactly the opposite. Hence, its meaning is not literal. For example, someone wears an ugly shirt and you say "nice shirt" meaning the opposite. It could be said that for using and understanding irony it is necessary to be intelligent because verbal irony is usually used to present serious facts in funny way.
