Use conservation of energy to determine the final speed of the masses after the heavier mass has fallen (starting from rest) 3.5 m .The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s 2 . Answer in units of m/s.

Answer:

final velocity will be equal to 8.28 m/sec

Explanation:

Let the mass is m

Height fro which it is fallen h = 3.5 m

Acceleration due to gravity [tex]g=9.8m/sec^2[/tex]

We have to find the final velocity of the mass

As the mass is dropped from rest so initial velocity is 0 m/sec

Using energy conservation [tex]mgh=\frac{1}{2}mv_f^2-\frac{1}{2}mv_i^2[/tex]

So [tex]mgh=\frac{1}{2}mv_f^2[/tex]

[tex]\frac{1}{2}\times v_f^2=3.5\times 9.8[/tex]

[tex]v_f=8.28m/sec[/tex]

So final velocity will be equal to 8.28 m/sec
