Yes. The colonists disagreed to comply with the British law in which they were a part of. Despite this, I do not think this civil disobedience was a bad thing due to the fact that their ruler lived hundreds of miles away and communication was slim. He would not have been able to make educated and reasonable decisions for the colonists.
