The last part of the poem made an impact on me. This is the last part:

This is our sole defense against the season;

These are the things we have learned to do

Who live in troubled regions.

This brings about a "helpless" image in my mind that whatever we do, our only defense against storm is to "draw the curtains" and "set a match to candles."

This reminds me that in life, I am also helpless whenever problems occur. It is not possible to stay away from problems because they are a normal part of life. Just like storms and other natural events, problems come and go. People are expected to face their problems, just as we are expected to face natural phenomena. Dealing with problems on our own or by asking help from people is what we have learned to do.
