Decide for Yourself
Tanya's best friend came to her with a
problem. The friend often felt faint and
shaky. She wanted to eat strange foods
sometimes. Other times, she couldn't eat
at all. Her toes had started feeling numb.
"I haven't told anyone," she said. "I feel
so awful today. I just can't make it to
soccer practice. Please cover for me.
Tell them I couldn't come. Don't tell
them why. I don't want to get kicked
off the team."
Tanya knew her friend's mom had
diabetes, which meant that her body did
not have the right amount of insulin. Tanya
thought her friend might have diabetes,
too. Her friend needed to see a doctor.
Her friend had begged Tanya not to say
anything to anybody. Tanya didn't want
her friend to get kicked off the team.
On a sheet of paper, write the answers
to the following questions. Use
complete sentences.

in this situation?

kicked off the soccer team. Why
else might she be scared to admit
she is sick?

should make?
