i want to know how you do this and can you show the steps so i understand better? Thanks!

Step-by-step explanation:
Okay lets start with the fact the numbers are in parenthesis, meaning your doing exponents. the only reason their showing you that the numbers such as (+5) and (+4) is to tell you whether the answer is to be positive or negative.
SO we'll start with on how to solve a equation with exponents:
(+6)-(+4) because the numbers have a + sign in front of it you are just basically saying 6-4. The answer would be +2 or just 2 depending on whether the equation asks for you to define that the number is positive.
Now if you were to do a exponent equation that has you subtract a bigger number from a smaller number:
(+3)-(+6) you are going to come up with a negative number which in this equation is -3. the reason it is negative is because you are subtracting a small number by a bigger one. what I do in these types of problems is I subtract the bigger number by the smaller number and put the number as negative like this:
original problem:
(+6)-(+18) I will switch the problem around to look like this (+18)-(+6) which will equal 12 and because in the original problem was (+6)-(+18) you will have to put the subtraction sign in front of the answer making it look like this -12
So lets say they want you to add a positive number to a negative number even though the negative number is bigger then the positive.
the problem lets say is this
-18+(+6) so in this case you are going to add the positive 6 to the negative 18 to get -12. SO basically you just subtracted the number six from 18 right?
Yes I did. they really try to confuse you on this with the positive and negative symbols but the jist of it is when you are adding any exponent look at the symbols and which number is bigger.
(-12)+(+6)=(-6)
if the negative number is bigger like this (-12) and they want you to add the positive number to it (+6) then you subtract the positive number from the negative still keeping the negative symbol (-6).
(+6)+(-3)=(+3)
If you are adding a negative exponent (-3) from a positive (+6) then you subtract the negative smaller number from the positive number keeping the positive symbol (+3). so if you can't understand it this far just stop because you will really get confused if you continue.
SO what about subtracting negative numbers from positive numbers when they show the subtraction symbol next to the negative exponent
(+5)-(-2)= n a subtraction sign is asking you to subtract a negative number then the negative number will turn positive and you will add it.
like this:
(+5)+(+2)=(+7) even if the equation looks like this (-6)-(-4)= you will still turn the number 4 into a positive number making the equation look like this: (-6)+(+4)= (-2)
So lets say you have to multiply and divide the exponents (yes, you will eventually learn how to multiply and divide exponents):
when you are multiplying any negative or positive exponent these are the basic rules for multiplying and dividing exponents:
positive multiplied or divided by positive is positive: (+5)*(+5)=(+25)
Positive multiplied or divided by negative is negative: (-9)*(+6)=(-54)
Negative multiplied or divided by negative will make it positive: (-9)*(-3)=(+27)
I really hopes this helps you, and this will help you in the future for everyone who are doing multiplication, addition, subtraction and dividing exponents
