Three healthy ways to use the food groups
Explanation:
In order to get a mix of essential nutrients and vitamins for our body to grow and function normally, a healthy well-balanced diet with a healthy choice of each food group is a must.
The basic food groups are:
Carbohydrate sources, protein sources, Dairy products, fruits and vegetables, fats and sugars
Healthy ways of using the food groups
- Our recommended dietary allowances (RDA) of all macro and micro-nutrients can be met by choosing the right option at right portion from each group. This should be covered by all the food and drinks that one consumes per day.
- Meals must be based on high fiber and starchy carbohydrates like rice, bread, pasta etc
- At least five portions of fruits and vegetables must be taken to meet the RDA of vitamins and minerals.
- Portions of sugar and saturated fatty acid sources should be cut down
