Three healthy ways to use the food groups

Explanation:

In order to get a mix of essential nutrients and vitamins for our body to grow and function normally, a healthy well-balanced diet with a healthy choice of each food group is a must.

The basic food groups are:  

Carbohydrate sources, protein sources, Dairy products, fruits and vegetables, fats and sugars

Healthy ways of using the food groups

  1. Our recommended dietary allowances (RDA) of all macro and micro-nutrients can be met by choosing the right option at right portion from each group. This should be covered by all the food and drinks that one consumes per day.
  2. Meals must be based on high fiber and starchy carbohydrates like rice, bread, pasta etc
  3. At least five portions of fruits and vegetables must be taken to meet the RDA of vitamins and minerals.
  4. Portions of sugar and saturated fatty acid sources should be cut down
