according to me kids does not like to take advise from their parents. they most probably like to mimic them. as children are closer to their friends and spend more time with them they tend to learn from them and want to be like them and want what their friends have.

especially teens are more influenced by there peer group (same age friends) and this is normal behavior of this age group. They want recognition and gain attention or be central point of their group and sometime they get ready go any extent to achieve this.

They also feel that can more free in discussions or more just talking and revelling themselves without being judged in peer group rather then opening wondering of parents and elders.

At an earlier stage of a child’s life , their parents influence them more since they are copying and learning what they do. However while they grow up their friends influence them more because of peer pressure
