This experiment is now called the Nirenberg and Matthaei experiment where they used ruptured E.coli cells, RNA and labelled tRNA to decipher the triplet codon that matched to specific amino acid. By the time the experiment was complete the men had found 64 amino acid codons which was a large contribution to genetics and molecular biology.
