Using the earliest microscopes, scientists observed tiny organisms and cells. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, the father of microbiology, was the first one who noted and described microorganisms. He named these microorganisms as "animalcules" which means tiny animals. These microorganisms are unicellular.
