After the Tensions with soviet union, Mao Zedong who is considered to be the father of Modern china felt that soviet economic model which proposed great leap forward policies were utter failure and he desired to rectify the Chinese communist party outlooks, he desired the Chinese youth to have  a revolutionary experience and asked the youth to form Red guards and he wanted to achieve some revolutionary changes by bringing many new policies in the field health, politics and economy.

He ordered the army of china in not to interfere with the function of red guards and ordered them to attack all the traditional values and thing that belonged to bourgeois. The youth were involved in chaos and attacks which resulted in more than one generation of Chinese youth left illiterate. Many cultural artifacts were stolen from the museums and the old traditions off china soon vanished. The result of brutal violence which persisted unfortunately resulted in the damage and destruction of the most valued ancient culture of china.

The 20th Century in China started with Boxer Rebellion, than in mid-20th Century started power struggle between KMT and CCP.

Chinese Cultural Revolution:

The Cultural Revolution was launched in China in 1966 by Communist leader Mao Zedong. The reason for the cultural revolution was:

  • High inflation in China, which led to demoralized citizens and military.
  • Zedong believed that current Communist leaders were taking the party, and China itself, in the wrong direction,
  • He considered the years after 1950s as inflitrated by “bourgeois”.
  • Mao called on the nation’s youth to purge the “impure” elements of Chinese society and revive the revolutionary spirit.
  • The Cultural Revolution continued in various phases until Mao’s death in 1976

Therefore, the events started with Boxer rebellion to the power struggle in 1950s led to cultural revolution.
