Answer:

True

Explanation:

After the post-election crisis in early 2008 in Kenya, Erik Hersman and Ory Okolloh agreed to develop a mashup in order to track violent events in their country. This software would allow them to collect reports in situ through email and SMS messages that would then be displayed on Google Maps. The name of that software is Ushahidi and means "testimony" in Swahili language; nothing more true for software released in the midst of chaos.

Ushahidi has since been used by different organizations around the world. In addition to Kenya, it has been used to track violent events in Gaza, Congo, South Africa and Atlanta. He has monitored elections in India and Mexico. Currently, it follows the H1N1 influenza virus and plays an important role in Haiti, to help in perhaps the greatest natural disaster in generations.

Today Ushahidi is no longer a simple mashup of web applications, it is a free software platform developed for any person or organization to establish their own way of collecting and displaying information.
