The three steps or formation of ionic compounds strontium and oxygen

Explanation:

Chemical bond

It is the  linkage between two or more atoms in a molecule.

Cause of bond formation

The atoms combine with one another to achieve noble gas configuration. By doing so they become stable.

Atom can achieve noble gas configuration

By loosing one or more e’s.

By gaining one or more e’s.

By sharing one or more e’s.

Types of CHEMICAL BONDS

IONIC BOND (or electrovalent)

COVALENT BOND

Ionic bond

It is the  Bond formed by transfer of electrons from one atoms to another.

It is formed when one atom donate electron & other accept electrons to achieve stable confugration.

NOTE:  it is always formed between metal a non-metal.

Examples :-

*  Formation of sod. Chloride as we know their atomic no., are

      Na    Cl

11   17    (atomic numbers of combining atoms )

.  2, 8, (1)           2, 8, (7)   (Electronic configuration )

Metal               non-metal                         (bond will be ionic)

    We’ll start with metal

 Na   -   1 e-     →  Na+

          Cl    +   1e-     →  Cl-

Na     + Cl   → Na⁺ Cl⁻

  X

      NaCl

Similarly ,for strontium and oxygen

Sr ⁸⁺     O⁸⁻

       x

SrO(Strontium oxide )
