"Future waste management will require only recycling and reduction, and no incineration or landfills."

Environmental groups are raising good reasons to recycle and reduce instead of incinerating and lanfills building. These reasons include the citizens' health and the environment´s hazard for the burning waste process as incineration technology, not even the current advanced one, can afford voiding serious environmental problems such as the release of huge amount of pollutants air, soil and water contaminating, including plastics´burning that delivers toxic emissions such as mercury, dioxins, and furans ending up integrated to the food chain.

Landfilling, by the other hand, have evolved from being the common way disposing municipal solid waste coming from households, business and industry in the United States in the 1940s through getting significant problems with two-thirds waste biodegradables generating great non-controlled amounts of leachate and methane, by the late 1950s, to those having partially resolved harmful gases emisions at facilities built since about the early 1970s. Methane gas is a potent greenhouse gas, it traps up to 20 times more heat in the atmosphere compared with carbon dioxide, contributing to global warming.

Nowadays, landfills have grown with population but the government´s commitment is to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill because it pollutes environment, including the water and the soil, and increase recycling.
