Biology Questions relating to cells.
1.) If a cell has more water in it will it be bigger or smaller? and why?
2.) Explain how blood cells interact with muscles to provide the most efficient functioning living organism.
3.) Compare the characteristics of 2 different animal cells (blood cells, skeletal muscle cells, nerve cells or sperm cells). List one similarity and one difference.

Much help would be apricated and thank you!

Explanation:

1)

It will be bigger because the more water it gets, the more the cell ‘swells’ and therefore becomes several times bigger. This is why when the cell gets too big than its cell membrane can contain, it will burst.  Cells usually acquire more water by osmosis, If the cell cytoplasm get too hypertonic to the surrounding environment, it will take up too much water that it can contain.

2)

When one is working out their muscle, there is an increased demand for oxygen because the rate of cellular respiration has increased, The rate of cellular respiration increases because the demand for energy (ATPs), required to power the muscle actions, has increased. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the muscles so that the process of cellular respiration can be efficient and so that the energy demand can be met.

3)

Blood cell does not have a nucleus and mitochondria. Their shape is bi-concave to increases the surface area with which they transport oxygen.

Sperm cell on the other hand are elongated cells with a flagella that help them swim up the vagina and uterus to fertilize the egg. The sperm cell has a nucleus and numerous mitochondria.

A similarity between the two is that both cells have a cytoplasm and cell membrane.
