Onomatopoeia is a figure of speech that refers to words imitating sounds. In the poem of T.S. Elliot, "Rhapsody on a Windy Night," these are lines that shows an example of onomatopoeia:
“The street lamp sputtered,/The street lamp
muttered,/The street lamp said…”
"The lamp sputtered,/The lamp hummed,/The lamp said..."
